Open-back Setting Ring Tutorial

Create Light-Filled, Open-Back Bezel Rings in Silver Clay ✨

In this tutorial, you will learn how to design and build open-back bezel settings.

This type of setting has a hole behind the gem to allow the light to pass through, enhancing the gem's natural sparkle and making it glow!

This technique is designed specifically for fireable gems (see my other tutorials for setting non-fireable stones) and will give you the skills to create versatile open-back bezels that can be used in any design!

IN THIS TUTORIAL, YOU WILL...

  • Learn to create open-back bezels for different gem shapes, two ways

  • Shape a bezel by hand for full creative freedom

  • Or use specialised setting moulds (I will show where to get them and how to use them)

  • Creating clean open backs that maximise light reflection

  • Making a triple bezel ring, start to finish

  • Get a full list (with shop links) for everything you need

WHAT STONES CAN I SET?

  • Faceted fireable gems

  • e.g. cubic zirconia, lab rubies, lab sapphires, or nanogems
